I was welcomed with open arms

I first went along to the group during a really difficult period in my life. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms, and there was never any pressure to talk about my problems unless I wanted to.

It’s simply a place where you can turn up, be yourself and spend time with other men who may be going through similar situations. There’s no judgement or pressure, just conversation, support and plenty of banter.

The best way I can describe it is like going to the pub with your mates, but instead of pints, you have coffee. ☕️

Helped put me back on track

I started coming to this group last year and met some lovely people.
When I first came, I was on the floor and had no interest in life. This group, led by Jason Titley, put me back on track in life.
I would recommend this group to anybody who’s feeling lost and alone.
Thank you, Jason.

You’re not on your own

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I first went to Stand By Me.

I feared that I’d be made to feel like I had to talk about what I was going through, but there was no pressure to have to do that.

It’s more about being in similar situations to others and realising you’re not on your own.

Jase makes sure there’s a brew and a biscuit and, more importantly, a friendly face who’s willing to listen to you.

Stand By Me isn’t counselling. It’s a support group where those who attend support each other.

Joining the group gave me something I desperately needed

I joined a men’s mental health support group at a time in my life when I felt completely overwhelmed. I had recently lost my job, lost a member of my family, and was also dealing with concerns about my health. It felt like everything was happening at once.

I began to feel alone and convinced myself that I was letting everyone down, especially my wife and children. I felt like I was becoming a burden to the people I loved, even though they had never made me feel that way.

Joining the group gave me something I desperately needed: people I could talk to openly and honestly. I found people who understood how I was feeling, listened without judgement and helped me realise that I wasn’t alone. Most importantly, they helped me understand that I am not a burden to the people around me.

The group isn’t about sitting in a circle every week and being forced to share our feelings. It’s about men coming together, supporting one another and being there when someone needs a listening ear.

It’s about having a laugh, sharing banter and spending time with people who understand. Sometimes we talk about serious things, and sometimes we just have a laugh together. Both are equally important.

I also learned that asking for help is not a weakness. In fact, I believe it is one of the biggest strengths anyone can have. It takes real courage to admit that you are struggling, to open up and to allow others to support you.

You don’t have to have all the answers, and you don’t have to face everything alone.

The group gave me a safe place to talk, to be heard and to start finding my way forward. It reminded me that sometimes, asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness.
